Every three years we as Members of Parliament hand the keys over to our young people to debate issues that are important to them.
It’s called Youth Parliament, and as your electorate MP I have the responsibility of selecting a young person locally to represent our region.
I’m looking for someone who can add our region’s voice on important issues facing young people.
Nominations are open now to be Rangitata’s Youth MP, and close on Friday 21 September.
Youth Parliament is fully funded. The young person selected will become the Youth MP for our area from 1 March 2019 until 31 August 2019.
They will travel to Wellington on 16 and 17 July to sit in my seat in Parliament’s debating chamber with their fellow Youth Parliamentarians.
It’s open to anyone aged 16 to 18 as at 19 October 2018 who is either resident or goes to high school in the Rangitata electorate.
Applications can be in the form of a video, a letter or an essay, but written applications consist of no more than 750 words. It should contain what you’d would like to achieve or focus on as our region’s Youth Member of Parliament.
Please send your application by 5.00pm Friday 21 September to firstname.lastname@example.org
